Jim Trull, AIF®, CFP®
Jim is a lifelong resident of North Carolina, having spent his childhood in Winston-Salem and the past 35 years in the Raleigh area. He and his wife, Sandy, reside in Apex, North Carolina. Their oldest son, Andrew, a graduate of Furman University, lives and works in Washington, DC. Their younger son, Nathan, recently graduated from North Carolina State University and works in Raleigh.
In his leisure, Jim enjoys playing golf. He is a member of Prestonwood Country Club, and his dream is to one day play Augusta National, the home of the Masters. Jim loves listening to all types of music, from Southern rock to blues. Some of his favorite artists are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Buddy Guy, The Eagles, and B.B. King. Jim is also an amateur photographer. Jim is an avid North Carolina State Wolfpack fan and supporter. He enjoys tailgating each fall with 20 to 30 of his Wolfpack friends during football season. When he is not reading financial journals, Jim enjoys reading about the Civil War and biographies about America’s great leaders.
Active in his community, Jim attends Apex United Methodist Church. He is a current member of the Cary Chamber of Commerce. Jim enjoys serving on the Cary Central Rotary Club’s scholarship committee and volunteering as part of the Needy Family project committee. He formerly served on the board of directors for Life Experiences, a local nonprofit organization that employs adults with development disabilities. Jim most recently became a volunteer ambassador for Transitions LifeCare (formerly Hospice of Wake County).
As president and founder of Keystone Financial Partners, Jim has earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC), and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designations. Most recently, Jim received the Women’s Choice Award® for Financial Advisors1, the premier recognition award for advisors who provide quality service to their female clients.
In April 2016, Jim became a Certified Financial Transitionist™, earning the CeFT™ designation by completing a 24-month program designed to help him guide his clients through the financial and personal sides of major life transitions. He is part of a small, global network of advisors who are using processes developed by the Sudden Money® Institute (SMI). Jim attended monthly classes where he learned different aspects of financial transitions planning—tools for decision making and protocols for comprehensive listening to help better serve his clients.
A veteran of the financial services industry with more than 30 years of experience, he has demonstrated a consistent ability to help protect and grow the hard-earned assets of his clients, many of whom have experienced major life changes including retirement, divorce, or the loss of a spouse.
Jim is a member of the prestigious Summit Study Group. The Summit Study Group binds creative, innovative, hardworking, and growing financial service professionals together for semiannual meetings. The purpose is to provide mutual support and growth in an educational context where he can broaden his perspective of the financial services industry and stay on the cutting edge of advanced planning strategies.
Jim graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s in business management. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and founded the Senior Resource Alliance of the Triangle.

Chris Walsh, CFP®
Associate Wealth Manager
Chris was born and raised in New York and grew up in the Hudson Valley. During college he played ice hockey for three of his undergraduate years and was an active member in both student government and volunteer activities. He relocated to Raleigh in 2010 with his then fiance, Lauren, to pursue a career with Keystone Financial Partners. Chris and Lauren married in June 2012. They have a golden retriever named Duncan.
Chris enjoys watching and participating in many different sports, including hockey, baseball, football, golf, and tennis. He has grown up spending summers at his family’s beach house in southern New Jersey and now spends his free time during the summer at Carolina Beach.
As associate wealth manager, Chris helps run financial plans and assists clients with planning questions.
Chris earned his BS degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and financial planning from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. He has worked in the financial services industry since 2006. He started his career with Empire Asset Management Group, a private wealth management firm located in Albany. As a financial specialist, he assisted clients with a host of issues and enjoyed working one on one with clients. He earned his Series 7 and 63 registrations with Commonwealth Financial Network®. In November 2012, Chris passed the CFP® exam.
Client Relationship Manager
Serena is the newest addition to Keystone Financial Partners, having joined as in February 2016, and serves as client relationship manager. She is the key administrator for the firm and works closely with our clients.
Serena lives in Raleigh, where she was born and raised. She attended North Carolina State University and earned her BS in business administration with a concentration in finance, as well as a BA in international studies with a concentration in international relations. Throughout college, Serena served as treasurer of her dual-degree program within the Poole College of Management and as a governing board representative on the Poole Council. Serena was also fortunate enough to study in Italy one summer to complete some of her necessary coursework abroad.
Serena enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends. She strives to take a trip to the NC Mountains every fall to hike and explore the Blue Ridge Parkway. Serena also likes to participate in 5K races throughout the year for various charities and volunteer with local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. She is a proud supporter of the NC State Wolfpack and attends athletic events whenever possible.
As client relationship manager, Serena assists our clients with their questions and handles administrative duties for the office.
Serena began her professional career with Credit Suisse, a global investment bank. As a financial analyst in Product Control, Serena served as a financial guardian of the bank’s trading activities. She is pursuing her Series 7 and 63 registrations with Commonwealth Financial Network® and is in the early stages of achieving her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional certification.
Karen Brock, CFP®
Karen was born and raised in Cary and lives in Raleigh. Her family includes her husband, Rob, twin daughters Olivia and Melanie, and their Sheppard mix dog, Penny.
Karen enjoys spending her free time with her family. She spends most of her time taking care of her girls by volunteering at their school, taking them to activities, and helping them with homework. The family especially enjoys movie nights at home, shopping trips to Target, and going on vacation, which often involves an amusement park. Karen is a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh and is a fan of cozy mysteries.
Karen worked for Keystone Financial Partners as a client relationship manager from 2002 to 2010. After spending four years as a stay-at-home mom, Karen returned to our firm in 2014 in a limited role as a paraplanner. She has worked behind the scenes, researching and preparing materials for Jim’s meetings with clients.
In July 2015, Karen increased her paraplanner responsibilities and her interactions with our clients. She continues to help prepare materials for client meetings but also contacts our clients to schedule investment review appointments and assist with other client service needs.
Karen has more than 12 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Keystone Financial Partners, she worked for a retirement administration and advisory firm.
Karen received her BS in business management from North Carolina State University, with a concentration in finance and a minor in accounting. In May 2007, Karen became a CFP® certificant.
Director of Business Development
Tami grew up in Maryland and came to Raleigh when she attended North Carolina State University. After graduation, she relocated to Denver, Colorado, with her husband, Mike. They have two daughters and moved back to Raleigh in 2004. They adopted a German Shepherd/Beagle mix dog named Callie.
Tami and her family enjoy the great outdoors and go camping every chance they get. She also enjoys traveling and has been to many of the National Parks and has travelled to Europe. Tami has been active in her neighborhood, serving as its neighborhood association president and web master and helping out with her daughters’ school through the PTA.
Tami started with Keystone Financial Partners in November 2009 as client relationship manager, assisting our clients with their questions and handling the administrative duties for the firm. In January 2012, Tami became our director of business development, where she now focuses on key marketing initiatives, including planning client events, booking speaking engagements, and handling public relations.
Tami earned her BS in economics from North Carolina State University. She has more than 18 years experience in the financial services industry. She started her career with CDA/Wiesenberger, a mutual fund research company. In Denver, she worked directly for a small mutual fund company. Tami earned her Series 6 and 63 registrations with Commonwealth Financial Network® in 2010.
